A Winding Road - A Ramble with Richard Thompson focuses on the Trio’s touring experience through
a kaleidoscopic montage of images and audio. Concert footage blends with ambient sights and sounds
to offer a textured collage of road experience. The film loosely follows the form of a day in
performance; beginning with load in and sound check then moving through backstage, performance,
encore and load out while repeatedly offering the experience to express the repetitiveness sometimes
found on the road. Richard’s commentary on touring, playing for his fans and on breakfast weave the
entire experience together. A Winding Road was filmed on the 2015 trio tour by several different
camera operators in several cities, as well as by Edmond Deraedt, the band's lighting director and the
director of the film.
